Preliminary task.

Firstly we created a story board, which gave us a brief outline of the storyline and shots involved. this picture shows the storyboard hole. There were a few changes along the way, and not all of the scenes shown here featured in the final piece.

This picture is of the first two frames of the film. The first box shows an establishing shot of outside the office, this is shown using a long shot, that shows both the door to the office and the prtagonist in the same frame. This lets the audience know the setting, therefore establishes the scene, making it simple for the audience to understand. I believe that this secene worked well, because, it shows a believable establishing shot of an office, making it eaisier for the audience to believe the authentivity of the film.

The second box shown is a close up of the protagonists face, this is to show her emotions, to show that she is nervous. This is backed up by the fact that she is biting her finger nails and the expression on her face. Thorughout these two frames there is a constant non-diegetic sound of a heartbeat usee also to show the charasters nerves. This frame worked well as it effectively shows the characters emotions, and leaving the audience wanting to know why she is acting the way she is, nervous.

Next shown is a close up of the characters hand on the door. This tells the audience that the person is going through the door letting them find out why she was nervous. In the storyboard this is were the non-diegetic sound, the heartbeat, would stop, on que with the dialogue, "come in". However, after editing the final peice the dialogue and actions did not match up, so we therefore had to leave it abbsent from the final film, to make it flow addequatly.

The next box shows a longshot of the character walking through the office door, with the diegetic sound of footsteps. However this scene, had to be cut, otherwise the film would have been inconsistent with the rest of the clip. This is due to the fact that this part was filmed in two differant locations to make the estalishing scene seem more real and believable.

The first box here shows a two shot of the interviewer and the main character. In the background, of the picture in the storyboard, the door is clearly visable. However in the real task, this shot had to be edited as the door in the office did not match the door in the establishing shot, due to a change of location.
The next box shows an over the shoulder shot, from the point of view of the interviewer, showing the protagonist looking worried. The camera then pans round to show the interviewer from over the main characters shoulder. This is also an example of the 180 degree rule.
Box seven shows a close up of the interviewee's hand, where she is fidgeting, this sows that she is nervous and in an awkward situation. All through out this clip, there is a constant non-diagetic sound of a heartbeat, which is faded out when the interviewer begins to talk but it can still be herd faintly in the abckgorund. This again is to show that the moment is tense and that the girl is nervous with the situaton.

Box eight, the last box, shows another over-the-shoulder shot form over the protagonist's shoulder, looking at the interviewer. All the while the girls head is slightly visable, ao the audience can see that she is agreeing with what the interviewer is saying. The heartbeat has stopped at this point, so the audience can hear the dialogue clearly.

conclusion: The clip ends with a high angle/ two shot of the characters. The frame is then edited to make the two people fade out, this fades out just in time with the heartbeat. this works well because, the video fades before the interviewer has finished speaking, this creates susspense and makes the film flow well instead of it just coming to an abrupt stop.

improvements: to improve the piece i would, make it more exciting by using a wider range of shots and cuts, shuch as a jump cut. i would also make it longer, and add more effective sound effects.

preliminary video!!!

I feel that our preliminary task went well because it included shots such as a high angle shot, to show insignificance of the character. This enabled us to gain knowledge of the shots and which ones look good in cirtain circumstaces, for example, showing something from an angle so it appears insignificant, high angle, or dominiant, low angle that makes them appear bigger then they really are.

The preliminary piece was faulty in that we didnt use a tripod, this meant the the fim was shaky and unstable. So in our final piece we concluded tha it would be best to use a tripod to make the fiilm steady and watchable.

180 degree rule:
the 180 degree rule is the rule that states that the two characters in shot cannot change poaition. for example, if one character starts on the left they must remain on the left for the remainder of the clip. If a character does not follow this rule and changes position, it is called crossing the line, this can lead to the clip becoming confusing for the auddience, esspecially if the the shot is an over-th-shoulder one or the characters are of the same swex or new.

this picture shows the above explanition. when filming the 180 degree rule, the camera panns, at the same level from behind one chareacters head to behind the others. however the camera never goes in a full circle around the two otherwise their positon would be changed, therefore going against the 180 degree rule.

this picture shows the rule in use in a black and white film.
